SOFTENING POINT BY CUBE-IN-AIR METHOD: D2319
TEST SUMMARY
This test method covers the determination of softening point above 176° F 80° C . Test Method D3104 gives comparable results.
Two cubes of pitch, supported on wire hooks, are heated in a standardized air oven at a linear rate. The softening point is the mean of the temperatures at which the cubes sag downwards a distance of 60 mm.
TEST PRECISION
Repeatability: 2 ° F (1.0° C)
Reproducibility: 7.2° F (4.0° C)
This test method has no bias.
