HEAT OF COMBUSTION OF LIQUID HYDROCARBON FUELS BY BOMB CALORIMETER: ASTM D4809
EXPLANATION
This test method is specifically designed for use with aviation turbine fuels. It can be used for a wide range of volatile and nonvolatile materials where slightly greater difference in precision can be tolerated. Strict adherence to all test method details is essential to obtain good precision. The precision of this method is better than that by Test Method ASTM D240.

TEST SUMMARY
A weighed sample is burned in an oxygen bomb calorimeter under controlled conditions. The temperature increase is measured by a temperature reading instrument which allows the precision of the method to be met. Either isoperibol or adiabatic calorimeters may be used.

TEST PRECISION

This test method has gross bias of 0.001 and a net bias of 0.089 MJ/kg.
