HEAT OF COMBUSTION OF LIQUID HYDROCARBON FUELS BY BOMB CALORIMETER: ASTM D240
(Equivalent Test Methods: IP 12 and AFNOR M07-030)
EXPLANATION
This test method is applicable to liquid hydrocarbon fuels ranging in volatility from that of light distillates to that of residual fuels. This test method is not as precise as Test Method ASTM D4809.

TEST SUMMARY
Heat of combustion is determined by burning a weighed sample in an oxygen bomb calorimeter under controlled conditions.

TEST PRECISION
This test method has a repeatability of 0.13 MJ/kg and a reproducibility of 0.40 MJ/kg.

No bias statement is made.
