Cleveland open-cup method is used for measuring the flash point of petroleum products. It useds Cleveland open-cup apparatus, known as Cleveland open-cup tester.

The brass cup is filled to a certain level with a portion of petroleum product. Then, the temperature of this petroleum product is increased by heating and approaches its flash point.
