ASTM D7260 Standard Practice for Optimization, Calibration, and Validation of Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES) for Elemental Analysis of Petroleum Products and Lubricants
12. Report
12.1 For each analyte determined, report the concentration in mass % for additives and additive packages, in mg/kg for lubricating oils and base oils to three significant figures, and in mg/kg to two significant figures for gasolines, middle distillate fuels, etc. Depending upon the product specifications above suggested significant figures may have to be adjusted. State that the results were obtained by using the specific test method utilized for that analysis.

12.2 If a concentration is determined to be below the detection limit (BDL) of the instrument, it should be identified as such (BDL) along with the determined detection limit for that element.
