ASTM D5501 Standard Test Method for Determination of Ethanol Content of Denatured Fuel Ethanol by Gas Chromatography
13. Report
13.1 Report the purity of the individual alcohols to the nearest 0.01 mass % using Eq 3 or nearest 0.01 volume % using Eq 4.
14. Precision and Bias
14.1 Precision - The precision of this test method as determined by the statistical examination of the inter-laboratory gas chromatographic test results is as follows:
14.1.1 Repeatability - The difference between successive results obtained by the same operator with the same apparatus under constant operating conditions on identical test materials would, in the long run, in the normal and correct operation of the test method exceed the following values only in one case in twenty.
14.1.2 Reproducibility - The difference between two single and independent results obtained by different laboratories on identical test material would, in the long run, exceed the following values only in one case in twenty:
NOTE 2 - The data below shows repeatabilities and reproducibilities for ethanol and several methanol values obtained using the formulas given in 14.1.1 and 14.1.2.
14.1.3 Bias - No significant difference was found between the ethanol or methanol content obtained by this test method and the expected ethanol or methanol content (based on the concentrations of ethanol and methanol in the prepared samples) for the fuel ethanol samples analyzed in the round robin used to evaluate the precision of this test method.
