Are there different measures of viscosity?
Yes. However, regardless of which method is used, there are two important points to remember. First, the higher the viscosity number on the given scale, the thicker the oil. And second, the grades are ranges, not specific points. For instance, an SAE 30 grade oil is an oil that drains a standard size vial in 58-70 seconds. An oil draining in 69 seconds is more viscous than one draining in 59 seconds even though both would be classed as 30 grade oils.
